To: The Mountain Press, Sports Department:
Let's all wipe the tears from our eyes. Phil Fulmer's buyout will be between $4.675 million paid out over a 48-month period and $6 million over an extended period.. His entire staff will split a little less than $3 million, although unlike Fulmer, an assistant coach's buyout would be reduced by the amount of his new salary per month if he takes another job.
Hardly a firing. Fulmer has already been paid more than most of the people in Tennessee, the United States and the World will see in multiple lifetimes. The buyout is more than most of the people of Tennessee, the United States and the world will see in multiple lifetimes. If he does not have a nice hefty nest egg to live on the rest of his life anyone want to contribute to the Philip Fulmer Bailout Plan, that is Rescue Plan?
Steve Spurrier said something like he does not know if he should express sympathy or congratulate Fulmer for receiving one of the largest if not the largest buyout in college football.
That brings me to the second point responsibility for the buyout. If Athletic director Mike Hamilton expects a football coach to be highly successful every year shouldn't we expect the same from Hamilton? Mike Hamilton gave raises and contract extensions to a coach who had a bad NEXT year. Mike Hamilton is obviously not up to job so he must go too!! UT cannot afford the way Mike Hamilton's mind works, raises, bonuses, contract extensions followed by a firing.. This guy should go to work for Fannie Mae or Lehman Brothers.
Next athletic director, NO CONTRACT EXTENSIONS!!!!!! Pay for performance. Basic salary with bonuses for every win, SEC division championship, SEC championship, each week in the top 25, each week in the BPS or whatever, bowl appearances, bowl victories. If a coach will not sign for that who wants him?
