Security is on everyone's mind these days. Security for the new president, the previous presidents, the country and on and on but you as part of the Legislative Branch must bring sanity and our Bill of Rights back into the considerations.
Congress has failed to uphold the Constitution. This hallmark of failure is too common a practice by many who are supposed to be representing the people.
Rushing to their 2007 summer recess, Congress sold out the Constitution to cover their backsides while keeping THE people mostly in the dark. Collapsing to pressure from the White House (a White House determined to walk all over the Constitution) congress passed the Protect America Act of 2007. The title alone should be enough to cause the people to tremble. As you know the act bypasses the fourth amendment by authorizing open-ended surveillance of American's overseas phone calls and emails without the need for a warrant or security justification. It has been called "power without responsibility or accountability."
It relies on subterfuge, secrecy, and propaganda for its strength.
Invoking "state secrets" and "national security" runs in the face of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
It is time security protect the people from the Government and you and your fellow legislators must get involved. And I encourage you to do so.
