Usury

Under the Law, God prohibited the people from charging interest to other Jews but allowed them to charge interest to foreigners.

While Jesus fulfilled the law this prohibition apparently continued until the time of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. During the Reformation Martin Luther needed the support of the political leaders such as kings, princes, land owners etc. They in turn pressured Luther for permission to take over the common areas of land and rent the land back to the people who lived on it.

These political leaders were attempting to free themselves from the Catholic church's opposition to the practice of charging interest and the commercialization of formerly common lands. The Catholic Church wanted to keep the local lords, princes and kings dependent upon the pope.

Growth of the Protestant Reformation required the support of commercial interests which were demanding the moral authority to lend and borrow money. The Old Testament law prohibited charging interest to other Jews but permitted interest to strangers. Permission to charge interest in affect said that everyone was a stranger.

Thomas Jefferson wrote that it created a world where "the merchant has no homeland." If everyone is a stranger, it is a lot easier to do business. The merchant class cannot exist outside of a culture that encourages money lending. The growth of commerce-based organizations destroyed many traditional "tribes."

Martin Luther saw the needs of local power brokers could encourage the spread of Protestantism. With no other choice the pope followed suit.  The ban on usury was eventually eliminated. Investments were made, business grew, and productivity soared. People could view every transaction as a chance to lend or make money because they were independent agents. Everyone became a borrower or a lender.

Suddenly your "tribe" was a profit center. If you knew a lot of people you could make money from them. Social leadership suddenly translated into financial leadership.

For the last five hundred years, the best, way to succeed has been to treat everyone as a stranger with whom you could do business.

U.S. Showed No Job Growth in August

It is well past the time to close the loopholes and to increase taxes on the rich. If they were going to create jobs they would have done so by now.

Space Junk Crisis Looming

Where man goes he pollutes, he litters, he trashes. Man should remain on earth and not destroy the rest of the universe. An who are these polluters, litterers, trashers? They are some of the most educated of our species. Sad. Very Sad.

College Athletics Out of Control

The only way to get college sports under control is to set a minimum standard where violations result in a 5 year death penalty for all sports involved. The university would be required by law to continue scholarships for uninvolved players. Involved players would be required to pay taxes on all the benefits they recieved and the NCAA would ban them from participating in NCAA athletics for 5 years. The university would be allowed to sue the booster.

Corporate Canaries 1

Expressing yourself to the boss fails with insecure management.

Agreeable but uninspired employees are expendable when times change.

Lazy, undependable or unproductive, poor performers should not give advice.

More businesses fail chasing sales instead of profits.

Aggressive pricing rarely works.

All Cultures Equal?

To paraphrase Leo Strauss, If all cultures are equal, the difference between the Pope and a cannibal is a question of preferences.

Compromise: A middle between two truths

At the close of the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin spoke to his fellow delegates. He called for a unanimous vote, even while acknowledging that he had his own reservations about some of its provisions. Yet he acknowledged his own fallibility and asked them to confront the danger of their certainty as well:

"Most men "think themselves in possession of all truth, and that wherever others differ from them it is so far error. Yet, when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men, all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an assembly can a perfect production be expected? It therefore astonishes me, Sir, to find this system approaching so near to perfection as it does..."

Too many of us are certain our political and policy views are perfection. Franklin reminds us that a democracy depends not so much on perfect solutions as on humble collaboration.

As a side note: Our Constitution was developed in 100 days.

Too Expensive to Send to War

The media questions why so many SEALS were in the same aircraft and what the purpose of putting them at risk was. As with our weapons we spend so much money on training the end result is a soldier too expensive to send to war.

Why Should Americans Care?

Considering Islam and Western Civilization cannot coexist why should Americans care how many Muslims are killed in Syria, Egypt, Libya, etc?

The Country Will Survive

Remembering history makes it easier to understand current issues. What we are experiencing today is not new. I am reading a book on the Whiskey Rebellion. The whiskey tax was the first tax on an American produced product. It appears David Hume, a Scottish Philosopher argued that key to a nation's economic prosperity is concentrating wealth in the hands of the few people who can use it to finance ambitious projects.

Alexander Hamilton found in Robert Morris an embodiment of Hume's ideal. Morris or his people headed Finance, Foreign Affairs and War in the new government. The financier controlled all real power in Congress as well as the Continental Army.

To Morris the war effort should be focused on paying interest to the bondholding class. Tight cash forced choices between paying soldiers and paying creditors. Creditors came first: Morris suspended army pay and prohibited state legislatures from paying their own soldiers, insisting states send all money to Congress, to be distributed as he saw fit.

Morris blamed the states for failing to tax the mass of ordinary people. He wanted a direct federal tax, payable by the people to congress. These taxes were to be collected by federal officers. Thus Hamilton's whiskey tax on 1791. Washington not only went along with this tax he used Federal troops against the citizens of the United States. It wasn't until following the Civil War that we had Posse Comitatus.

Our country started off pretty screwed up and the country will survive this one.

Preserving Liberty

To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.

The Dow Plummets

The Dow plummets because computers are generating sell orders for billions of shares. Remember if someone is selling someone is buying. Now is the time to buy. The United States will never default and everyone knows it. The downgrading of the S&P is political not financial.

Trump and Buffet

Trump and Buffet have the easy answers but the problem is they will not work. It is easy when you have no responsibility for what really is going on. The other problem is their easy answers are often wrong. Why does the media consider them worthy interviews? They have a lot to say about nothing. Besides, if Trump was as smart as the media thinks he is he could find a good hair piece.

Middle East

Our military has to remember they are in a war. How could the enemy get close enough to bring down one of our helicopters? Careless. Tragic but preventable. But so is the entire operation in the Middle East. No matter how long the United States' military is in the Middle East when they leave the bad guys will move in. We cannot win. Bring the troops home. NOW!!

Much About Nothing

The stock market is no longer relative to reality. Many trades are initiated by computers based on a number here or calculation there. Emotion is not involved. Fear and confidence are not part of the equation. There is little if any difference between the stock market and online poker.

United States is a Military State

The United States is a Military State, not a democracy, not a republic. When the president can declare PFC Bradley Manning guilty without trial, when the government can put him in prison for over a year without a trial and have no trial date scheduled when they can violate the Constitution they can do it to us.

So Gay

Homosexual is slang for queer. Queer means: off center, weird, odd, unwell. Synonym to queer is strange.

According to the Wiki Dictionary, Gay in the sense of homosexual (first recorded in 1951) was shortened from earlier gay cat 'homosexual boy' in underworld and prison slang, itself first attested about 1935, but used earlier for a young tramp or hobo attached to an older one.

People attracted sexually to members of their own gender are at the very least a bit odd, weird, off center. As a mule is odd and cannot reproduce after its own kind neither can gay people reproduce after their own kind. They must rely on another oddity. That in itself is odd.

How do you explain a male being sexually attracted to a male who acts and attempts to look like a female or a female being sexually attracted to a female who acts and attempts to look like a male.

They are queer. They should not be mistreated because of their queerness but there is no denying they are a bit odd. Anyone who has ever seen a female impersonator doing burlesque understands those folks are a bit strange.

We Should Have Known

We fought a war to get away from taxation without representation. After victory one of the first taxes the new government forced on the people was a tax on liquor. We should have learned something. Now it is too late.

Old Enough

On the subject of Warren Jeff and his young brides, any girl (woman) old enough to request or authorize an abortion is old enough to be married. Why is government so interested in who marries whom?

Who is Making Money off of Casey Anthony?

Is it a bit odd that the cable networks are dedicating paid-by-sponsor hours complaining how Casey Anthony wants to make money off of her situation? Who is making money off of Casey Anthony? Cable networks that is who.

Debt Ceiling

President Obama should forget congress and raise the debt ceiling. Congress approved the spending that is causing the problem. Congress is irrelevant.

Where are Our Fighting Generals

How do we expect to win a war when after the leaders start the war and lead their troops into the war the leaders leave. They retire or take other assignments. Safe and secure while the men who trusted them continue to fight and to die. How many of our military leaders retired during WWI and WWII? We need fighting generals not retiring generals.

No Rich Friends Creating Jobs

The Republicans have no rich friends creating jobs only rich friends who will give the Republicans money. The rich friends have shipped the jobs to other countries and have received obscene bonuses for doing same. It is well past time for Republicans to put the voters ahead of their rich friends.

Fixing Congress

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.  The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

No Tenure / No Pension: A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately.  All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans.

Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

Congress looses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.

All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/12 .

The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Media Should Do Their Job

Curious how the media has permitted the district attorney on the Casey Anthony trial to have a pass. He was depending on public outrage and a demand for vengeance instead of PROOF. Casey Anthony will walk not because she is innocent of the crime we all believe she committed but because the district attorney over charged and under performed.

Soap Operas

Did you know soap operas can change people's attitudes on a number of areas? Mexico's national television network broadcast a series of soap opera segments on the subject of literacy. The day following an episode where one of the characters in the soap opera went to a literacy office wanting to learn to read and write, over 250,000 people did the same thing in Mexico City alone. Eventually 840,000 people enrolled in literacy courses all in response to those soap opera segments.

On another subject, birth control, a drama series on contraception, resulted in Mexico's birth rate by over 30 percent.

Following as series of radio serial dramas on such issues as reproductive health and gender equity surveys indicated that just after two years over 60 percent of people seeking reproductive health care had listened to one of those dramas. On the subject of HIV, male listeners sought HIV tests at a rate 4 times non-listeners and female listeners at a rate of 3 times non-listeners. Demand for contraceptives increased 150 percent and the number of children per woman declined to 4.3 from 5.4.

The United Nations reports providing effective contraception to 200 million women without access to such services could prevent almost 100 million unwanted pregnancies, induced abortions and infant deaths.

Considering the influence soap operas wield is it any wonder the affect sex centered soap operas have on the United States? And do not forget violent movies, violent television shows, and violent video games.

Knowing vs Proving

The problem is a judicial system that permits the government to incarcerate an individual for years while they do not have the evidence to prove the charges against the individual so imprisoned.

Knowing and being sure are not the measure of our judicial system. It is proving. In the Casey Anthony situation the government failed. The government should be required to pay Anthony's legal bills. If the attorneys were working gratis for the client they should be able to bill the government. If the government can do it to her it can do it to YOU!!!!! Check the Constitution!!

Get Government Out of the Marriage Business

On the subject of Gay Marriage why is government involved in a decision between two people to commit their lives to the each other regardless of gender? Heterosexuals have no more business to be in on the decision of homosexuals to "marry" than homosexuals have on heterosexuals decision to marry. It is past time to get government out of the marriage business.

NFL and NBA?

I figure the pros will be surprised by the lack of interest in their strikes. We will watch more college games. Maybe not the same level but then again the NFL and NBA are different than they used to be. Kind of like cameras. Ten years ago 3 mega pixel cameras were just fine today 12 mega pixels are a must but 3 worked just fine. Screw the pros. College will do just fine.

Gates and the Presidential Medal of Freedom

The PMF means nothing unless it is given for exceptional service, service beyond what would be expected. Gates was paid for what he did and he did nothing more. The PMF is political and means nothing. Similar to honorary doctorates for donating money to a university. Means nothing.

Friday, June 24, 2011

You Gotta Admit, It is a bit weird.

No candidate needs the homosexual vote to win. But all candidates need the anti-gay marriage vote to win. Do the math. Homosexuals may make a lot of noise but they are irrelevant as far as politics is concerned. Most heterosexuals are tired of being "called" homophobic because they do not agree with the "life style" where one is attracted to one's own gender. You gotta admit it is a bit weird.

But, have you considered why is government involved in a decision between two people who have decided to commit their life to the other regardless of gender? It may be time to get government out of the marriage business.

The United States Needs to Stay Home

We the People of the United States are a warmongering people. We are willing, even anxious to go to war in other people's country. We do not see ourselves as others see us. We see ourselves as the protector, helping underprivileged peoples to raise their standards of living. Others see us as a meddler, on occasion a ruthless meddler, in the lives of nations. While we offer a helping hand too often we exploit the people we claim to be aiding.  How many wars have we fought since our War Between the States fifteen" twenty? How many have been within our own territory? We go to war often to the detriment of the people we claim to help while living in peace within our borders. We need to stay home. Today we are building or rebuilding the infrastructure of countries we have destroyed while the infrastructure of our country continues to disintegrate. We are nation building while our own citizens suffer. We are a warmongering people and we need to stop.

Curious

Working at Dollywood I have noticed the parents of mentally and/or physically disabled children appear to actually love them. While many of the parents of "normal" children appear to be annoyed with them. Curious don't you think?

Middle East; Get Out Now

The United States must leave the Middle East now.

Reducing the number of troops will not work. When the level gets low enough number those remaining will be destroyed like Custer's Last Stand.

Whenever we leave, now or in 100 years the bad guys will rise up and take control.

As long as our military is in the Middle East the host country should pay the expenses of having the troops there.

Rep Weiner Resigns

Where is the surprise? The idiot thought laws of morality and ethics the rest of us follow do not apply to him. He was wrong. The only question remaining is when will his wife divorce him.

Lebron James Has a Long Way to Go

Lebron James has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same sentence with, in no particular order,  Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russel, as well as many others. Lebron is a high school graduate who due to an accident of nature is the size to play the game of basketball. In high school most likely he received little coaching. When he was drafted he came into the NBA as a star before he did anything. He most likely received little instruction from his professional coach. He has learned OTJ. He is not a smart basketball player, nor a clinch basketball player, nor a go-to-guy nor a finisher. He is just big and fast. If he ever receives and accepts coaching he might one day be a very good player. Until then no one will win a championship with him as the main guy. As the coach of the Celtics said many years ago you build your team around a big man. Lebron at best will be #2 and most likely #3.

NATO must Go

NATO was not created to decide who should govern other countries. If Muammar Gaddafi  is a "legitimate target" of NATO what does that make the leaders of the NATO countries? NATO must be dissolved.

No Clue

As Timothy McVeigh had no clue neither did bin Laden have any idea his plan would result it such massive destruction. Bin Laden did not dream the WTC buildings would collapse. Neither did McVeigh dream his bomb would wreak so much destruction.

Bin Laden was a financier he was not a fighter nor was he "the brains" behind terrorism. Anyone could come up with the idea and plan to use airliners as bombs but they needed money to execute the plan. Bin Laden provided the money. We should be ashamed of ourselves for not realizing the potential. When I worked in DC the airline I used flew pretty close to the Pentagon. I wondered 20 years ago why someone did not land right in the middle of it; a small plane with a dirty bomb right in the middle of the Pentagon. We do not understand security. People not raised with Judeo/Christian ethics and morals think differently that those who were. The Chinese may look like us but they do not think like us. Piracy is not immoral. Chinese have no morals. Muslims have no limits. Their religion encourages them to kill anyone who does not believe the way they believe.

What the United States must learn is these so called terrorists have their agenda, they are not crazy. They do not hate us because we call ourselves Christian. They hate us because we leave our military in their country. If someone did that to our country we would have our own version of Al Qaeda. Remember Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys? The colonies considered them heroes and defenders the British considered them terrorists.

The United States cannot win in the Middle East!!!!! The bad guys will out wait us!!!!

Bring all of our troops home NOW!!!!

Learn Quickly

The United States should be careful how they criticize Pakistan. Pakistan is caught between the United States and Al Qaeda/Taliban. The United States gives money to Pakistan to help us. Pakistan gives some of that money to Al Qaeda/Taliban to be left alone. We are providing some of the funds Al Qaeda/Taliban use to fight us. It is the only way Pakistan can survive. It is the only way Pakistan can continue to help the United States.

Pakistan arrested informants that helped our CIA locate and kill bin Laden. To save face Pakistan must look tough otherwise Al Qaeda/Taliban will bring vengeance on Pakistan.  The United States had better learn quickly or all of our alleged friends in the Middle East will turn away from us.

Bad Things Happen to Good People

On the subject of bad things happening to good people: people ask "Why?" when bad things happen because they are taught that bad things will not happen to them if they are good enough, if they have enough faith. We take a verse here and a verse there and build a belief. If what James was telling the folks to do was meant for anyone other than those of that time surely we would have seen an example in the other books and letters. Surely Paul would have called for Elders and healed Timothy instead of leaving him sick. He could have healed him himself.

We live in a world regulated by natural law. This suggests a certain amount of suffering is inevitable. We benefit from the laws of nature and we suffer the consequences when they are violated. Imagine a world where God suspended the laws of nature whenever someone "prayed." But we teach them he will and when he doesn't they ask "Why?" Seeing their parents praying and seeing no results over their eighteen years at home might be part of the reason the youth do not continue their parents values and beliefs.

Across the country and I will guess around the world churches tell their members to ask God to suspend the natural laws, his natural laws, for the benefit of someone they care about. He will not.

Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world. It appears the church's kingdom is.

Different

I realize I see many things differently than others but this veteran stuff at the shows and now at church I find a bit demeaning of the veterans. The last time anyone fought/died or were wounded to protect our freedom was WWII. All wars or conflicts or police actions since have been political and our freedom was never in question. Thanking them for our freedom cheapens all those who died for our freedom such as the men and women who died in our Revolutionary war and wars where our freedom was up for grabs. If we want to honor the veterans we should stop wasting the lives of our military. When they come home stop calling them heroes and help them and pay them a decent wage. But how could that compare with applause from a bunch of strangers who didn't volunteer and were able to avoid the draft. Veterans are being applauded by a group of people who were unwilling to help in time of war. At least some of those veterans had no intention of being a veteran. In Viet Nam I know of cases where some were sent to war as punishment because they screwed up.

Stop Wasting Lives

This Memorial Day if we are to truly honor our military we will bring them home and stop sacrificing their lives. We do not need thousands of military bases in hundreds of countries. The last time any member of the military services died protecting our country was WWII. Every war since has been a Republican or Democratic war. Stop wasting the lives of those you want to honor.

Middle of the Road

To govern this country you must govern as a moderate from the middle of the road. You cannot govern this country from either the right or the left as either Conservative or Liberal. The problem is you cannot be elected as a moderate or as a middle of the road.

Why Politicians Cheat

Politicians cheat because they can. They are rich and believe themselves different and above the law. Laws, ethics, morals that apply to the rest of us do not apply to them. AND then there are the possessors of "part B." If it were not for them there would be no place for the politicians to insert their "part A." Possessors of "part B" appear to have a thing for politicians.
Maria Shriver is a millionaire on her own so she could afford to leave. Think of all those women who cannot. If a commoner were to have sex with a foreign domestic employee his ass would be in jail for sexual harassment. His child support would be considered a payoff, obstruction of justice and bribing a witness. As it is Arnold will hardly notice.

No Clue

Republicans have no clue. If they had been wise they would have chosen different leaders in Congress thus showing the voters the Republicans have changed. Instead they chose the old and will give Obama a second term.

Federal Spending

All this talk about the need to reduce or stop government spending is ignoring the main point. We the people have to stop enjoying the benefits the government spending provides to us. Anyone wanting the government to reduce spending should say what they will stop receiving from the government. Until we do it is all talk and nothing will change.

Dogs for Diabetics

I was reading a magazine at Dollywood the other day, there is an organization Dogs4Diabetics that trains dogs to identify and act upon the scent changes that low blood glucose creates in body chemistry. The dog in the article was trained to bring a stuffed animal to the owner when the dog detected the scent letting the owner know they needed to take some sort of action. A trained dog costs $12,000 but the organization will attempt to train the family dog. I had read that dogs could be trained to detect some types of cancers and other unique situations but I had not heard about this.

Release Soldiers and Police who are in prison for doing what Delta Force Did

Osama Bin Laden was murdered. How much resistance could one unarmed prisoner present to our elite Delta Force? At the moment Delta Force entered the room bin Laden was their prisoner. Instead of wounding him in the legs they shot him in the head and chest. Unless the first shot was a kill shot they shot wounded, unarmed prisoner of war. Point being we have soldiers and police officers in prison for doing the same thing. Release them.

Lesson Learned by Our Friends

One lesson friends of the United States has learned from this Osama Bin Laden caper is the United States will "out you." All this secretive stuff and now the world knows Pakistan turned on the Muslim community by helping the United States kill their hero. Tsk Tsk. The United States has got to learn how to keep a secret.

Royal Wedding

We fought a war to get away from those people. Most of the people who go goofy over a couple of pseudo elitists marrying do not realize they don't measure up to the level of the goofy couple. Her Duchessness has married into a dysfunctional family and has nothing to do. Should be interesting to see how long it takes until she as Diana has had enough.

Obama: What did you expect?

Anyone with any common sense knew Obama did not possess what is necessary to be president. We can thank Bush and Cheny for him. Anyone but a republican would have won in 2010.

On the other hand Obama is a politician and a good one at that. He is as Caucasian as he is Black but being the racists we are he is considered black. The voters did not see the lack of character and voted for the color of his skin. The antithesis of everything MLK talked about.

Being a politician Obama is dishonest, unethical, and immoral. He will take care of himself first, those who give him money will be second and last and least if convenient the voter. So nothing he says or does should surprise anyone. It certainly does not surprise me.

Anyone who wants him to do something to fix the oil problem wants government involved in the market of supply and demand. If folks don't like the price of gasoline don't buy it.

The republicans have got to get away from the billionaire friends and do something or we can look forward to another four years of Obama.

I understood that people were upset that Taco Bell's "beefy" was something less than 100% beef. Now I read that they are satisfied since Taco Bell admits their "beefy" is 88% beef. When did we drop from 100% beef to be called beef? I wonder what is in their cheese.

NATO, , , Where is the media

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization began in 1949 as a collective defence of its member states from attack by non-member countries. It was not intended for NATO to decide which governments should exist and which should not. This is a major step to world government. We should be terrified. Where is the media?

2012 Election

Obama has the advantage so far. To get the Republicans to extend unemployment for the millions or workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own he (Obama) was forced to agree to extending tax cuts to billionaires and millionaries who are rich because they outsourced those jobs to other countries receiving millions of dollars in bonuses for their efforts. A couple of numbers you may find interesting is the 400 richest people in the United States received $345 millions in income in 2009 AND one of the oilcompanies made a profit of $19 billions last year and their reports to the SEC, not be be confused with the South East Conference, showed they paid NO federal income taxes while receiving a hundred million dollar credit toward future federal income taxes. Now compare that to what you paid.

Self-Help Guru on Trial

The only reason this trial is being conducted is because the victims were and are rich. If they had been poor this trial would have never happened. The victims died because of their own stupidity and arrogance. My guess is this fellow will be found not guilty and he will then sue the victims. I wish him luck.

What have we learned in 2,066 years?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome becomes bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

Live and Let Live

The United States is leading the effort to impose a no-fly zone in Libya, even though we have no vital interests there. Neither do Franch and Britain have vital interests at stake in Libya. What happens in Libya has little bearing on the rest of that area of the world. Also not to be ignored, there are worse human rights violations elsewhere. But interventionists have goaded another president into acting as if the opposite were true. A third war with no stated goals nor exit plan.

Obama and his fellow bullies in Britain and France can not provide a coherent goal for this intervention. Reason? There is none. We and they just do not like their leader.

What if the rebels in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya are organized and led by the Muslim Brotherhood and/or other radical Muslim groups with a goal of removing all dictators/monarchs in that region and replacing them with pseudo-theocracies? And the United States and other free countries are  helping them? This could be the start of WWIII with Russia and China standing by to jump in when it is most beneficial to them?

We must learn to live and let live.

Now We Wait

With the United Nations authorizing attacks on member nations the United States will one day be the target and we will deserve it. I am waiting for the World Court to authorize George Bush 43 to be tried on war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Invasion of Libya

Apparently we just cannot leave well enough alone. We invade Iraq, a sovereign country, remove its government and turn their president over to his enemies for execution. Now we get involved in a Libyian Civil war. When are we going to stop trying to run the world? How many of the countries that neighbor Libya are involved in the illegal attacks. Again we have no plan and do not know when we are finished. Stupid Stupid Stupid.

Cannot Make Others Live as We Live

The United States must stay out of Libya. It is time for the French, Germans, and Italians as well as some of those Arab Muslims to bury their soldiers in an illegal invasion of a sovereign country. The resolution passed by the UN will one day be used by our enemies to invade us and set us right.

Militaries Across the World

Militaries must stop allowing themselves to be used to intervene in sovereign countries at the whim of the civilian leaders of their country. Libya is involved in a Civil War much like the one we fought. If the south would have won we would be speaking German.

The Same Hand That Feeds You May be the One That Wrings Your Neck

Consider the turkey that is fed every day. Every single feeding will firm up the bird's belief it is general rule of life to be fed everyday by friendly members of the human race "looking our for its best interests" as a politician would say. On the afternoon of the Wednesday  before Thanksgiving, something unexpected will happen to the turkey. It will incur a revision of belief.
How can we know the future, given knowledge of the past; or, more generally, how can we figure out properties of the (infinite) unknown based on the (finite) known? What can a turkey learn about what is in store for it tomorrow from the events of yesterday? A lot, perhaps, but certainly a little less than it thinks, and it is just that "little less" that may make all the difference.

Re: My Magic Green Hat

Our country is pretty screwed up. As long as we are willing to help the helpless there will be cheaters. My guess is not many Americans will let a three-year-old girl starve or die of a treatable illness.

Those in prison can get a college education for free while non-criminals have to sacrifice to provide the same education for their children. Recently I read a paper about Denver CO, that claimed total costs, housing, food, medical etc total around $45,000 per year for each homeless person. One area Denver is looking at is providing a free apartment for the homeless which will cost less than $5,000 a year. That plus $10,000 for services per individual will reduce the total cost of the homeless by over 60%.Living in an apartment will be healthier than living in a shelter. One homeless person  How's that for stupid. Give a homeless person a home for free while those who are working have to struggle to afford the same things.

Several years ago there was a story out of the USSR that the manager of a canning plant had been executed for putting too few peas in a can of peas. My guess is that stopped the cheaters. Until we are ready to eliminate from society anyone hurting society we will continue to have cheaters.

My Magic Green Hat

The other day I needed to go to the emergency room.  Not wanting to sit there for 4 hours, I put on my MAGIC GREEN HAT.   When I went into the E.R., I noticed that 3/4 of the people got up and left.

I guess they decided that they weren't that sick after all.   Cut at least 3 hours off my waiting time.

Here's the hat:

It also works at DMV. It saved me 5 hours.

At the Laundromat, three minutes after entering, I had my choice of any machine, most still running.

If you live in Texas, it might cut your wait time at the grocery store.

But...don't try it at McDonald's. The whole crew ran out the back door and I never got my order.

Big East Officials St Johns vs Rutgers

I hear the officials made a mistake. Where's the mistake? . They froze or intentionally gave the game to St Johns. Two flagrant fouls go uncalled and then traveling and out of bounds not called. All within a few seconds. These three should never work a game together again. Might want to see if any of them had money riding on the game. Worst officiating in years. Was in stupidity, favoritism, or dishonest?

The sad thing is Obama could never do what he had promised. That the Hollywood crowd was taken in is no surprise. Too much drug use. As far as Matt Damon is concerned ask him if he has more money today than he did when he voted for Obama? If yes tell him to shut up. If no ask him how Obama has hurt him.

Middle East

The United States should stay out of the unrest in the Middle East. To-date we have supported dictators who have oppressed the people. The people hate us. Muslims cannot live in a democracy so oppression is the only way to govern them. They will overthrow or attempt to overthrow any government until they get one they like such as in Iran. Today, the people rebelling are very likely the trouble makers in Tunisia "spreading the word."  Muslims wanting to establish theocracies that will hate the United States. And regardless of what the politicians say this is a war between Western Civilization and Islam.

Somali Pirates

If I understand the reports our Navy was going to not let the negotiators return to their ship. Those same negotiators had told their people to kill the hostages if they do not return. If true our Navy violated the standard "white flag" of truce for enemies to talk. Whoever made that call should be Court Martialed. While the victims did not deserve what happened to them what did they expect sailing through the area in which pirates are active? Like the two hikers in Iranian jails what did they expect? Americans should stay out of that part of the world.

Four Reasons the Supreme Court Will Uphold Obama's Health Care

1) Congress, of course, has the power to regulate interstate commerce. But people who opt out of purchasing health care are not keeping to themselves. Many of them are taking a free ride on government-run hospital emergency rooms. Taxpayers foot the bill for that kind of care, so it's impossible to make a legal argument that some people can be legally exempt.

2) The Court's decision on Social Security in 1982 is a good litmus test. Justices said, in effect, that it'd be nice to offer the people a chance to opt out of a burly national system, but if you do, the entire system collapses. The same is true with the health care law.

3) If you think Justice Anthony Kennedy is the swing vote, think again. He may sit at the ideological center of the Court, but he's come down on both sides on issues of personal freedoms, like gun rights, and the 14th Amendment for equal protection. But he's never been up in the air on issues that have such substantial economic implications, like health care does.

4) This is the Supreme Court we're talking about, not Congress. The Supremes occasionally appear partisan, but they're not bound by the party of the president who appointed them. Political arguments don't always pan out on strictly partisan lines the way they did in 2000 in Bush v. Gore. In fact, they almost never do.

Iraq Debacle

Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi known by the IA as "Curveball" should be charged with murder as well as several other crimes for causing the deaths of thousands of people including our military. He has caused the financial ruin of thousands of people. If he is not going to be executed for his crimes he should be deported to Iran.

The Bush administration should be charged and tried on crimes against humanity and other war crimes. Their lack of diligence caused the death and injury to thousands of people.

Boldly for Extermination

If the problem is the student refused to condemn Hamas I thought the speaker's question was petty. My guess is he was upset that the student said the pamphlet was more interesting than the talk. Nice shot but a bit cheap. Both getting under the other's skin.
Christian's are anti Satan. They would like for God to destroy Satan and if they could they would destroy Satan. Muslims are anti Jew. They would like for Allah to destroy the Jews and if they could would destroy the Jews. They want Palestine to be an Islamic country. They want Allah to make it so. If they can they will.

Hamas is a wing of the Muslim Brotherhood. It considers Palestine an Islamic Holy Possession. Among its goals is the destruction of the State of Israel. Where is the compromise between Israel and Hamas?

Where was the compromise between the Colonies and England? They could not coexist in the status quo. It was a fight to the death. Same with Hamas and Israel one has to destroy the other or one has to change their goals.

For years rhinoceros would not mate in captivity. Zoo folks were stumped. It seems the beginning of the rhinoceros mating ritual includes some pretty violent activity resulting in blood shedding and on occasion injuries. The zoo people not recognizing what was going on would separate the animals to protect them. Then, one day a light went on. With their new knowledge the violence is permitted to continue and there are little rhinos everywhere. Nature is violent and sometimes it is best to stay out of its way. Hamas and Israel cannot co-exist. One has to yell "Uncle!!"  As the Colonies and England had to duke it out until one said "Uncle" so do Hamas and Israel.

Wild animals never kill for sport. Man is the only one to whom the torture and death of his fellow creatures is amusing in itself. James A. Froude: English historian (1818 - 1894)
It is thought that some animals do kill for fun at least they do not eat what they kill.

Forcible or Not Forcible

I understand the House leadership, I assume Boner et al, want to redefine rape into a couple of categories, forcible and not forcible. Forcible could have access to government sponsored abortions while the not forcible, such as date rate, etc where the female could not prove force would not have access. Should be an interesting two years.

I have never understood how the manner in which the fetus was created, fun sex or bad sex, is a valid measurement of whether it should live or die.

Wild Animals in Captivity

We humans have an odd habit of taking wild, untamed animals into captivity. Animals meant to wander tens if not hundreds of miles in a day are confined to are where minimal exercise is available. We poke and prod them and when the animal does not respond we think "good animal." We think animals are like children and as we know a "good child" is seen and not heard.

This elephant probably did nothing different than they would have done to another elephant they liked or disliked. The problem is the elephant does not know its own strength.

I do not consider I am less of a person because I have never seen millions of bison roaming the prairie. I would not be less of a person if I never saw an elephant in captivity. I never saw a dinasaur and it does not bother me. Leave the wild animals in their natural habitat,

Egypt: Emergency Law vs United States: Patriot Act

The Egyptian emergency law sounds familiar:

Egypt under the emergenc law: police powers are extended, constitutional rights suspended and censorship is legalized. The law sharply circumscribes any non-governmental political activity: street demonstrations, non-approved political organizations, and unregistered financial donations are formally banned. Some 17,000 people are detained under the law, and estimates of political prisoners run as high as 30,000. Under that "state of emergency", the government has the right to imprison individuals for any period of time, and for virtually no reason, thus keeping them in prisons without trials for any period.

Just Say "Yes" to Regulations

Allen Greenspan admitted he was wrong thinking the banks could regulate themselves. As long as business pays their officers hundreds of millions of dollars for less than mediocre performance and come to the taxpayers for bail outs the taxpayers must regulate that business. And I expect your support. When businesses fail let them fail.

Egypt Should Not Change Now

In a country of 90 million population Egypt cannot change with less than 100,000 protesters. Mubarak has said he will not run again. If he does DON'T VOTE FOR HIM!!! As with other Middle East countries the citizens of Egypt do not know how to function under a real Democracy or Republic. Look at Russia! They are still trying to figure it out.

Mubarak Can't Leave

Egypt has laws and Mubarak was "elected' according to those laws. An election will be held in a couple of months and Mubarak has said he will not run. When the new president is elected reforms can begin. If a minority of people can force this president out another minority can force the next president to leave. That does not make for a stable country. The should follow our example: declare their independence and start a new country.

Health Care Rationing

I hear comments concerning how ObamaCare will ration health care. I don't see rationing as a problem. We cannot afford to do everything we technically can do. You have a son who is 45 and needs $400,000 for treatment and you have a 85 year-old grandmother who needs $200,000 to be cured and you have $300,000. What would you do? If you can afford it you can do anything you want otherwise you are sharing a finite amount of money.

Technology wise electronic record keeping will make everything more efficient.

We have to identify and remove from the system all treatments that are not worth what they cost. That will be step 1. Doctors are going to hate it. But insurance companies will do this with or without Obamacare.

Iran was unable to conquer Iraq. Our destruction of order in Iraq has permitted Iran to takeover Iraq today. What their military could not do ours did for them. The leaders of Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and others have kept the Muslim Brotherhood down. If Mubarak leaves Egypt the Brotherhood will take over the government. Something they could not do without our help as we demand Mubarak must get out.

Lacking a leader and defined government to replace him Mubarak must stay. If he leaves it will be mob rule.Mubarak has maintained order like Saddam Hussein did in Iraq before we sent our military in for a coup. When Mubarak leaves the Muslim Brotherhood will rule as the Shia do in Iran and will soon in Iraq and Syria, and Yemen, and AE and Jordan and the rest of the Middle East. Right vs Left

The terms "left" and "right" appeared during the French Revolution of 1789 when members of the National Assembly divided into supporters of the king to the president's right and supporters of the revolution to his left. (The seating may have been influenced by the tradition of the United Kingdom Parliament, where the monarch's ministers sit to the speaker's right, while the opposition sit to his or her left.)

Those who were loyal to religion and the king took up positions to the right of the chair so as to avoid the shouts, oaths, and indecencies that enjoyed free rein in the opposing camp". However the Right opposed the seating arrangement because they believed that deputies should support private or general interests but should not form factions or political parties. The contemporary press occasionally used the terms "left" and "right" to refer to the opposing sides.

At least this is one cause. . .

50 Shilling

On the subject of immigration: in the beginning of the 17th century the Virginia Company wanting to attract new colonists offered 50 shilling to each person paying their own way to America.  It proved so successful that it was imitated in some form by almost every later English colonial venture, as well as the U.S. government into the 19th century to attract immigrants. Maybe we should recognize it has always been the nature of our country to encourage immigration not to prevent it. What we need to stop are the government gimmees we all enjoy.

Egypt

What we are seeing in the Middle East is the Iran affect. Anytime Iran wants to it can walk into any country in the Middle East take control and no other country can stop them. George gave Iran what Iran could not get for itself when he upset the order of Iraq. With that under their belt the other countries are terrified. I heard a woman from Egypt sees their options as a continuation of the dictatorship, what is going on now is a call for democracy and a the alternative being a theocracy. If it goes to theocracy Iran will have won.

ObamaCare

Government has no Constitutional authority to require anyone to purchase health care insurance. Government has no Constitutional authority to require health care providers to provide health care to the uninsured. So those without health care insurance do not receive any health care services. Isn't that simple?

Egypt

Egypt. . . The reasons, I hear, for the current upsettedness of the Egyptian people include government corruption: lack of jobs; vast difference between the haves and the have nots: which support my contention of several months ago that the next revolution in the United States is going to be between the haves and have nots.

While their constituents are losing their jobs, congress gives themselves raises. and enlarge their expense accounts. While their constituents do not have health care members of congress make sure they and their families have the best healthcare plan in the world. While their constituents lose their pensions, members of congress make sure they and their families have the best retirement plan in the world.

Don't forget the incest among corporate America and our elected officials. The super rich making everyday expenses beyond the reach of the average American.

First depression, second revolution. The next armed conflict within the borders of the United States will be not be racial, or religious, or ideological it will be the have nots rising up against the haves. Remember the French Revolution? "Let them eat cake." Remember what happened. The United States is not beyond such extremism.

Re: Fw: The Growing Crisis in Egypt -

Egypt is more like Iran.  Mubarak is like the Shah a vicious dictator and like the Shah knows which side his bread is buttered on so he brown noses the US. The citizens of any country will take crap for so long and then all hell breaks lose i.e. the Berlin wall. Mubarak has to coddle the people or they will assassinate him like they did his predecessor. He may have had a part in that, I do not know. The United States has to stay light on their toes and be ready to go either direction.

The Egyptian brotherhood was involved with Sept 2001. Mubarak and those before him kept them in check as Saddam did as the president of Syria did, as King of Jordan did. The only way to control them is to kill them. If we are ready to do that we can win. If we are not Egypt and Jordan and Syria and Iraq will all go the way of Iran.

Our military will be of little use. Our weapons are too expensive to risk on a $200 handheld rocket. We are too big to fight so the solution has to be political and via third parties. If we put more military on the ground we will be sending them into a meat grinder and we have not seen casualties like we can expect since Antietam. If I were on their side the first thing I would do is exactly like Saddam did. Set the oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Iraq on fire. The U.S. military is already stretched too thin so they will not be able to respond effectively. As happened in Yehmen a few years ago, I would attack as many US ships in foreign ports as I had people. Then I would poison the water sources for a few major cities in the United States and maybe highjack a plane or two and land them in the middle of large cities. Then if he is alive, which I doubt, I would bring Osama into the picture as the head of the revolution in one of those Middle East countries. And the only demand I would make is for the US to get out of the Middle East completely. Should be a fun month.

Email Briefing Bulletin:                                                                 FLASH TRAFFIC - - FLASH TRAFFIC

The information contained in this briefing is for your consideration insofar as how we in America may be affected by the growing crisis
in Egypt.

FOR YOUR ANALYSIS:
1.  The riots in Egypt have continued the past 4-days, and are growing in both intensity and in numbers of outbreaks and participants.  As
of this date/time, 74-killed and two thousand injured.  Also 3-police officers have been killed. The police in Cairo have been recalled completely with the
Egyptian military now the lead
force attempting to bring order. The curfew has been completely ignored, with the numbers of rioters growing by the hour.  Over 18-million people live
in Cairo, Egypt.
2.  The rioters are "everyday" Egyptians; including Moms, Grandmothers, and those who would never have thought about acts of civil disobedience.
Egyptians are well-educated but literally hungry.  For 30-years, the Egyptian government has stolen from the people, and while the Egyptian government
became wealthy and accustomed to a very nice life-style, the people of Egypt, for the most part, have not been as fortunate.  Another example of the
disparity between the Elites and everyone else.  The emotional drama is still building.  Crowds take on their own personality, and what is taking place in
Cairo, Egypt is beginning to spread to outlining areas of the country, and is also intensifying.  The people are beginning to speak in one voice "Not until
Mubarak is removed!"  Shuffling the Egyptian cabinet may prove to be nothing more than political window dressing, and the people will not go along with
this type of sham.
3.  Lt. Gen Omar Suleiman, Director of Egypt's Intelligence System,  EGID, similar to America's CIA, has been appointed Vice President of Egypt.  This may
prove to be the first step in President Mubarak stepping down as President.  General Suleiman can be viewed as Gerald Ford was during the Nixon transition
closing down Watergate; a calming and transitional President.  Mubarak is still holding on, but his wife and son already have left the country landing in London, England.
4.  Banks throughout Egypt are closed; international businesses and corporations have closed; selected embassy's have removed their staffs; growing concern
over the security and calm at the Suez Canal, which, as you know, is a critical water passage way for oil distribution world-wide.  Oil already has risen $4-a
Barrel to $90-barrel which means gas in America will go to $4-gal by next week.  Yesterday, Friday, oil jumped 4.3% the largest one-day jump since 9/09.
There is speculation a price jump could be as high as $10-a barrel.  This rise would have very serious implications for Americans and our economy.  Over 2-
million barrels of oil go to Europe daily through the Suez Canal.  Any disruption could have a severe immediate effect on Europe and its' continuing decaying
economy.
5.  Signs of a slow and steady villanization of America is underway.  The United States is seen by a growing number of Egyptians as being the main support to
Mubarak, helping him to remain in a dictatorial position the past 30-years.  Mubarak will not listen to the present administration in America.  He is most close to the
Clintons, but does not respect at all Obama.  So, our influence will be limited.
6.  The Muslim Brotherhood is increasing its presence and influence during this.  This will have a very negative result for America.
